Fern Canyon Adventure

$275.00

FERN CANYON TOUR

Fern Canyon feels less like a hike and more like stepping onto another planet. Tucked away in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, this narrow gorge is enclosed by steep walls completely covered in lush ferns and mosses. A shallow creek threads its way along the canyon floor, reflecting the greens and golds of the forest above.

On this guided walk, your naturalist guide turns the canyon into a living classroom. You will hear how water, time, and geology carved this corridor, and how the cool, shaded environment allows moisture-loving plants to thrive. As you move deeper into the canyon, you will get to know its fern “residents”—from delicate five-finger ferns to bold sword ferns and graceful lady ferns—and learn how they survive on near-vertical walls.

The route follows the creek bed itself, with gentle wading and rock-hopping along the way. Rain boots are provided so you can focus on exploring rather than worrying about wet feet. Surrounded by towering, fern-draped walls and filtered light, it is easy to see why filmmakers come here to capture a primeval world. Fern Canyon has appeared in productions such as Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World, BBC’s Walking with Dinosaurs, and multiple nature films that seek out landscapes that still feel wild and untouched.

You meet your guide directly at the trailhead, making it easy to start each adventure without extra logistics or shuttle arrangements.
